Toyota starts construction of engine plant in India

Toyota starts construction of engine plant in IndiaIn a ceremony, Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd (TKAP) announced the commencement of work for new facility for engine manufacturing. Partners will also be expanding existing transmission plant at Bidadi. With these new plants, TKAP has ambitious plans. From the engine manufacturing plant, company will be producing nearly 100,000 engines annually from third quarter of 2012. Company will be producing nearly 240,000 transmissions per year from beginning of 2013, with an expanded plant. This will help company increase number of domestic parts in the "Etios".

This huge production plant will seek an investment of Rs 5 billion. Project is one among those projects which got approval from State High Level Clearance Committee, Government of Karnataka meeting on 24/01/11. Managing Director of TKAP Hisashi Suzuki said reporters about details of the plant "This project will help generate additional employment for more than 500 members at TKAP. It will also additionally, create opportunities for indirect employment in our supplier fraternity. TKAP, an EOU will now contribute towards localization and will get an opportunity to serve customers in India." TKAP currently manufactures manual transmission for "Fortuner" manufactured in India, Thailand and Argentina. Company also manufactures axles and propeller shafts for the "Innova" manufactured in India. Current capacity of Bidadi plant of TKAP includes production of front and rare axles (52,000 unit/year), same number of propeller shafts and R type manual transmission (170,000 units/year).
