Operation to control ONGC oil spill
Saturday afternoon the Coast Guard completed its Process Paryavaran Rakshak that was in progress to slow down the oil drop by the ruptured pipeline of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) away from the Mumbai shoreline.
Instantaneously after the rift in the pipe linking the oil platform with Uran, was seen approximately 8.45 am on Friday, the Coast Guard swerved into action straight away.
To spot the crack in the pipeline, 4 ships were sent to handle the leak and planes kept an observation in the clouds, checking the level to which the oil had seeped out. As per the Coast Guard officer, almost 55 tons of oil seeped out and the spill out was controlled by sealing the supply to the pipe and changing its passage to another duct.
Deputy inspector-general (operations) Coast Guard's, Mukesh Tyagi stated that at the moment things are in hand. The quantity of the oil on the surface of the sea is very less.
Plenty of oil fades away in the sunlight and virtually eight tons was pumped out of the water by the pollution control vessel, Samudra Prahari. As per the senior officials their personnel spewed approximately 3,000 liter tons of oil dispersants as an anti-pollution gauge.
