Many still being exposed to passive smoke
Smoking concerns have gone up in Maori and for the ones who smoke in their houses and cars seem to be spotlight today with a vital concern.
Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia has brought up the issue, after raising the issue after seeing the data released in a new Ministry of Health report.
She claims that she isn’t glad to learn the fact that 1 in 16 non-smokers is exposed to smoke and one out of 22 are exposed to it whilst work hours.
Also it is stated that more than half of the Maori women still smoke, when compared to the other 40% of Maori men. Even then, ASH director Ben Youdan claims that a lot of development has been witnessed in the situation.
Reports laid by the Ministry of Health's Tobacco Use Survey reveal that lesser number of individuals smoke when compared to the data of 2006.
Youdan is aiming to get an understanding of the dangers of passive smoking which might tend to lower the number of smokers droop.
He added that Maori smoking is deemed to be of utmost priority but claims that it could be handled by offering support to quitters, rather than staying there and blaming each others.
