Govt Gives Nod To MCI Plan To Increase Retirement Age Of Medical Teachers To 70
The proposal of increasing the retirement age of medical teachers has been approved, according to reports.
The Union Health Ministry has sanctioned the proposal and enhanced the retirement age of medical practitioners from 65 years to 70 years.
The government approved the proposal viewing the shortage of trained teachers in the education sector.
Various proposals have been presented by MCI.
The MCI also suggested outsourcing teachers from private sector and recruit retired teachers.
The sources revealed that the officials are under pressure of shortage of teachers as many new colleges are coming up.
MCI had also suggested starting distance education learning program in which trained teachers will impart knowledge to students.
MCI officials explained that raising retirement age of government medical experts will result in more MBBS doctors and reduces the hunt of private professionals on talented teachers.
In another recommendation, MCI said that the land requirement to build a new medical institute should be reduced from 20 acres to 10 acres in urban areas.
Earlier, the government medical colleges were given permission to increase the number of under-graduate seats, but without compromising on the quality of education.
