Rupee weakens by 2 paise against dollar in early trade

Indian-currencyThe Indian currency, the value of rupee in the global market weakened on Friday by 2 paise and came down to Rs. 46.86 for every 1 dollar in the initial hours of trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, after the month end demand for dollar from importers.

However, despite all this, the losses made by the US currency, dollar, as against other major Asian currencies abroad, limited the losses. The Indian rupee had closed at higher by 6 paise at the rate of 46.84/85 for every 1 dollar on Thursday evening.

According to the dealers, the end of month demand for the US dollar from importers chiefly kept the pressure on the Indian rupee. But despite this, the US dollar's weakness against the other major Asian currencies overseas restricted the losses, they added.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Bombay Stock Exchange (or BSE) benchmark index, that is, the Sensex, came up by 65.53 points, which is equivalent to a 0.36 per cent rise, and settled at 18,160.82 points for the initial hours or during the opening trade.
