NTPC may pull out of CWG
Amidst several rounds of controversies that are already hovering on the heads of Kalmadi and his other officials, a threat from NTPC to pull out of the CWG comes as a shock.
It has been learned from the sources that the PSU is saying that it wants absolute clarity on how its funds are being used because it remains answerable to Controller and Auditor General (CAG) and Central Vigilance Commission.
It may be noted here that the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee had set a sponsorship target of Rs 1,800 crore but has received a commitment of only Rs 342 crore till now and this threat from the state-owned company has taken many in the committee by surprise.
Moreover, it is a case where the major sponsors are PSUs with the Indian Railways contributing the maximum at Rs 100 crore and it is believed that if NTPC wants to exit this arrangement, a host of other players may follow its decision. It is to be mentioned here that among the private sector companies Hero Honda is spending Rs 38 crore rupees and Coca-Cola Rs 16 crore.
