BP decides to seal the damaged oil well on Tuesday

bp-oilBP has planned to start injecting mud and cement in to the damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday as one of the final steps of sealing the well permanently.

According to an executive of BP, the procedure would start if preliminary tests are positively completed. This procedure of killing the well permanently is called static kill. The US coast guard officers will supervise the operation of pumping mud and cement in to the well through the relief wells.

US Admiral Thad Allen has said the important thing would be the bottom kill operation which is to inject mud into the door of the well. The senior vice president of exploration and production of BP, Kent Well has said that, they wanted to confirm that they can inject the oil back into the reservoir.

He has said that if the preliminary test completed successfully then they would start the static kill procedure.

The well has been sealed temporarily for more than two weeks by a tighter cap. BP has unveiled estimated costs of 32 billion dollars to cover the damages of the disastrous oil spill.
