BP unclear about oil spill case

BP unclear about oil spill caseThere is a new twist to the much debated British Petroleum oil spill. While it has been asked by the US government to clean up the mess and fast, the British petroleum company is into another mess itself.

The company has backed off from a statement where in it said that it is siphoning 5,000 barrels of oil from its leaking oil well in Gulf of Mexico. It said that it is not clear as of yet. This has lead to rise in confusion as to how much oil is getting lost.

Talking to the media, Doug Suttles, BP's chief operating officer said that the company had never made a statement mentioning 5,000 barrels.

He further added that every day 2,000 barrels are drawn to the surface and a 4-inch tube has been inserted into the leaking pipeline. This will take place on Sunday.

He also added that in a period of 24 hours, the earlier tube was able to draw 2,200 barrels of oil and 15 million cubic feet of natural gas.

The statement made by BP was reported by The Chronicle and other media houses, on Thursday. But BP did not challenge it that day.
