Vedanta supplies 200 Megawatt of electricity to Orissa
Orissa is currently dealing with a huge power shortage problem. Vedanta has come forward to rescue Orissa by providing electricity to the State. The company has informed that it will supply 200 Megawatt of electricity to the State Grid. This amount of electricity is equivalent to 547 million units.
The company has also said that it will provide the electricity at an average rate of Rs. 3.60 per unit while the average cost is Rs. 4.34 per unit in the open market. Moreover it has crossed over Rs 9 per unit at spot as the current supply is not matching with the demand. Vedanta's power plant at Jharsuguda provides 14% of the total electricity demand in the state.
The Vedanta spokesperson has informed in Bhubaneswar that the company will facilitate direct procurement of power by the State. Such supply will help the Government to reduce power cuts and this will provide a relief to the common people of the state. Now the duration of power cut has gone up to 8 hours per day in the state.
