Vaccine trial isn’t the reason for death
Vaccine for cervical cancer- Gardasil was cancelled as a precautionary measure not due to a reason pertaining to the death of four individuals, say the officials.
According to the Director general of Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr V M Katoch who commented on the death of four individuals, "It has been confirmed that while two deaths were due to poisoning, one died of drowning and another due to pyrexia of unknown origin."
Following to which Katoch asked the state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat to immediately cancel the cervical cancer control vaccination programme for girls after several complaints from activists.
Further to which the director said, it was an attempt to spread awareness and let people know about the future based policies. As the facts indicate it is believed the cervical cancer affects about 4.9 lakh women globally each year, with more than 2.7 lakh deaths.
