Opposition comes for Foreign Universities looking to setup campus in India
Wednesday witnessed University of Madras vice chancellor G Thiruvasagam criticizing the move to allow the foreign universities in the country. This came as the first major opposition from Tamil Nadu.
He expressed that it was ridiculous to expect that foreign universities would admit students who belong to socially backward and economically weaker sections, amidst when the country's own private universities and deemed universities are not taking care of the interests of such students.
The argument that globally well-known educational institutions would establish operations in India as and when Parliament approves the Foreign Universities Bill, which was cleared by the Union cabinet last week, was also not appreciated by Thiruvasagam, who was delivering the convocation address at the Pachaiyappa's College.
He feels that if foreign universities will come in India, they will also act as a threat to the foreign exchange that India earns by means of collecting fees from students of other countries who study here.
