Cairn ups its targets from India
Cairn Energy has increased its estimates from the Indian operations. The UK-based energy company said on Tuesday that it can generate more output from its Rajasthan unit.
The place, the company said, has more reserves than what was earlier estimated. It has raised its estimates from 3.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) to 4 billion boe.
It further added that there could be another 2.5 billion boe, which is yet to be discovered. Cairn also said that the total potential of the company is to raise 240,000 boe per day from the field. Its earlier estimate was that 175,000 boe per day.
However, the experts are not fully convinced because of the lack of data. But what ever the case, there is more potential in the region than it was thought earlier.
Meanwhile, Cairn also released its results where it showed a phenomenal rise in its net profit. From $11 million in 2008 it went up to $53 million in 2009. The major reason behind this has been the 59 per cent increase in output from the Rajasthan field.
After the news, the shares of Cairn jumped up.
