DRDO Develops Radar to Fight Naxals
The Defence Research and Development Organisation is developing foliage penetration radar to track activity in jungles and help the paramilitary forces fight Naxalites.
DRDO has undertaken technologies to support security forces in operations, including nuclear, biological and chemical attacks, in a low-intensity conflict setting.
DRDO Director-general Dr V. K. Saraswat said that his organisation opened a Low Intensity Conflict Division that would cater to weapons, equipment and life support systems for the paramilitary and police forces.
To avert the threat of frost bite, to the troops in high altitude regions, the DRDO has developed an Aloe Vera cream that insulates the soldiers from cold.
Soon battery-operated gloves and socks to help soldiers, posted in high-altitude areas like Siachen to fight cold, would also be developed by the DRDO.
The development of a "medium-altitude long range" UAV and "high-altitude long-range micro-UAVs and mini-UAVs" to provide support to the Army Artillery and Infantry units in a conflict situation also remain on the agenda for DRDO.
Besides this, DRDO is also working on development of low-power and high-power laser systems.
