Ford sales up 25% in January

Ford-LogoThe second-largest automaker in the US Ford Motor Co. witnessed a decent rise of 25 per cent in its sales for the month of January amid improving economic conditions in the US.

Beating analysts' expectations, Ford managed to deliver 116,534 units last month as compared to 93,506 in January 2009. The company's increased sales have now given rise to hopes that the US may now witness a back to back three-month sales gain for the first time since 2006.

General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC are also expected to announce rise in January sales soon.

Apart from reviving market, a halt in sales of eight models and a recall of 2.3 million-units by the Japanese automaker Toyota helped Ford to increase its sales last month. Ford was among those automakers, who offered various incentive schemes to Toyota owners.

While sales to fleet customers like car rental companies more than doubled, sales to individuals dropped by five per cent in January, the car maker informed. Models like Fusion sedan continued to be popular among commercial customers because of their high resale value.
