Dell to launch smart phone in China, Brazil
Dell Inc, the world's second-largest PC maker, has announced to enter in the Smartphone segment by launching the phone in China in alliance with China's biggest wireless carrier, China Mobile. Dell sees a better opportunity in the mobile phone manufacturing segment as global slowdown has adversely hit world’s computer market.
The world's third-largest firm, based in Round Rock, Texas would also launch the Dell Mini 3, a keyboard less touch-screen phone in Brazil. However, it is tightlipped regarding its launch in other markets to expand its business.
Dell is expected to take steps for the diversification of its business like Hewlett-Packard, the No. 1 computer maker worldwide who effectively weathered the shocks of global slowdown due to diversified nature of its business.
Taiwan-based company Acer also eroded market shares of Dell by launching tiny, inexpensive netbook computers. Michael Tatelman, Vice president of sales and marketing for Dell's global consumer business hopes that the open-source Android system for the smartphone may beat Microsoft's Windows Mobile in coming months.
Tatelman said that Dell already has business ties with some telecom firms in China and Brazil and this has helped the company launch Smartphone in the markets of these countries.
