The initiators of the Wall Project have approached the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation with a demand to develop a place in the city into a public art centre.

The Mumbai-based group specialising in graffiti painting recently painted the 3-km wall along the Tulsi Pipe road from Mahim to Dadar. “The idea is to find a space where artists and art lovers can brainstorm and develop ideas to beautify the city,” said Nisha Jacob of the Wall Project.

Additional Municipal Commissioner, R A Rajeev, said, “We are deliberating on the idea and are positive about it.”

Art centres help promote public art and create awareness among citizens so that they can add value to the city. The concept of a public art centre is new to the city but it is exists in states like Gujarat and Delhi.

Public art centres include training sessions and workshops. “For now, we have asked for one such centre which will be open to the public 24x7 but if people are enthusiastic the number of centres can be increased,” Jacob said.
