India regains second spot in ODI rankingsAn emphatic win in the final of the tri-series in Sri Lanka has put Indian team back to second place in the latest ICC ODI rankings released on Tuesday. India defeated Sri Lanka by 46 runs in the final to lift the Compaq Cup title.

Indian team had reached to top spot after crushing New Zealand in the first match of the tri-series. But, they had slipped to third position from the top spot after losing second match of tri-series against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Australian team had occupied second position after defeating England by seven wickets on the same day.

Indian team will have chance to regain the top spot in the Champions Trophy. The eight-nation Champions Trophy will kick off from 22nd September in South Africa. Australian team could also return to top rankings if they manage to clean sweep England in the ongoing Nat West series.
