Market Round Up
The Sensex recovered in the last hour of trade and ended with modest losses. Today's recovery was mainly led by heavyweights like Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and DLF. The Sensex fell 54 points to close at 15,020 after hitting an intra-day low of 14,701 and covered more then 2% from the intraday lows. The Nifty lost 14 points to 4,457 after hitting an intra-day low of 4,359. However, selling continued in shares of metal, technology, oil & gas exploration, select banking and power companies.
The economic data announced by the government was much better-than estimates. June IIP (index of industrial production) came in at 7.8% as against 5.4% year on year and 2.7% month on month.
Movers & Shakers
Realty stocks made a smart recovery. The BSE realty index ended 2.1 % higher. Ansal API, HDIL and Phoenix Mills were the top gainers in the group. The stocks rose more than 5.6 % each.
The auto index on the BSE also gained 0.4 %. Tata Motor up 4.1% and Hero Honda were up 1%.
The BSE IT index shed 1.8 %. TCS was the biggest loser in the IT space. The stock shed 4 % to Rs 519. Infosys lost 2%.
The BSE metal index was down 1.6 %. Sesa Goa declined 9% at 228. Sterlite down 1.6%, Tata Steel down 4% and Hindalco were down 1.8%.
The newly listed Raj Oil Mills was trading just above its issue price of Rs 120 a share.
In the Telecom sector, Bharti Airtel 6%, RCOM down 1.1% and Idea was up 1%.
In the Sensex pack, Tata Steel was the biggest loser. The stock fell 4.2 % to Rs 443. TCS, HUL, Hindalco and Infosys were the other main losers in the group.
Bharti Airtel was the biggest gainer. The stock jumped 5.8 % to Rs 404. Tata Motors also ended 4.4 % higher at Rs 447.
