Salzburg festival goes online with opera premiere

Salzburg festival goes online with opera premiere Vienna - The Salzburg Festival, one of the world's leading classical music venues, is set to move into the digital age by showing one of its opera premieres on the internet, the organizers said Tuesday.

The time-delayed viewing of Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte on Thursday will cost online users 8 euros (11 dollars), but regular ticket-holders have to spend up to 370 euros for one of the coveted seats.

The Austrian festival is following the example of the equally exclusive Bayreuth Festival in Germany, which introduced digital opera broadcasting last year.

The new production in Salzburg features French star soprano Patricia Petibon and Danish baritone Bo Skovhus.

The summer festival rose to fame under the leadership of conductor Herbert von Karajan from the 1950ies.(dpa)
