India confirmed as Hockey World Cup hostThe International Hockey Federation (FIH) has confirmed India as host of the 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup, which will start in March next year.

FIH reported that 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup will be held in New Delhi as Indian hockey officials have sorted out their internal problems.

FIH president Leandro Negre said that as Indian Hockey has solved all their internal problems including the merger of their women's and men's federations of hockey, so now they are ready to host this prestigious tournament.

Earlier, FIH had warned India in April that India could lose the Hockey World Cup hosting rights if different hockey federations for women and men hockey did not merge as a single hockey federation.

As a result, governing bodies of Indian hockey merged as Hockey India within the deadline of six months provided by FIH and FIH has recognized new hockey federation of India. Negre also thanked Malaysia for offering itself as standby host for the Hockey World Cup event in case India did not fulfill the necessary conditions.
