Sri Lanka advances to semifinals
Sri Lanka has defeated New Zealand by 48 runs yesterday at Trent Bridge and advanced to the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup.
New Zealand batsmen struggled against the spin of mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis as Mendis took three wickets for just 9 runs in his four overs and New Zealand team returned to pavilion for 110 runs on the board in 17 overs and lost the match by 48 runs.
Only three batsmen of New Zealand team were able to reach in double figures and M Guptill was top scorer for New Zealand, who scored 43 runs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 158 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. TM Dilshan scored 48 runs while D Jayawardene contributed 41 runs with the bat for Sri Lanka.
D Vettori took two wickets for New Zealand against Sri Lanka.
Ajantha Mendis was declared the man of the match for his outstanding bowling effort.
