Assocham Report: India’s Media, Entertainment Turnover May Cross Rs 1 Lakh Cr By 2011-12

Assocham A new study released by Assocham disclosed that the turnover earned by India's media and entertainment segment will increase two fold to Rs 1 lakh crore by 2011-12.

The study titled "India's Digital Revolution-Impact on Film & Television Sector", also said that the the sector saw this huge improvement on the back of growth, which take place in consumerism and technological improvement.

"The sector is expected to cross a turnover of Rs 1 lakh crore by 2011-12 (currently estimated at Rs 50,000 crore)," the study said.

The study also said that the revenue of the television industry is expected to go up by more than Rs 52,000 crore by 2012, as against the current figure of Rs 20,000 crore.

"This will include both subscription and advertising revenue," the report added.

The report also said that subscription income is projected to be the key growth driver for the television industry as the number of pay TV homes likely to surge to more than
100 millions from about 72 millions by 2011-12.

It added that the coming next three years will witness a blitz of conversion of a range of media, movies, music, satellite TV, radio, entertainment, animation and gaming, among others.

The report said that DTH will come up as the frontrunner amongst various pay TV technologies and will guide the TV digitization in the Indian market.

The report also said that the total number of channels, which presently stood at over 400 in all, is likely to surpass 500 by the end of 2009.
