CFL bulbs are cost-effective and energy-efficient lighting options
One of the ways to keep your homes green and save electric power and money is getting your homes equipped with Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs, which are greener and more economical than incandescent light bulbs. The life of the CFL bulbs and other fluorescent light bulbs is 10 times longer than incandescent light bulbs.
Seeing the benefits of these cost-effective and energy-efficient lighting options, the Northern Railway has launched "efficient lightening project" to replace incandescent bulbs in its residential quarters with CFL bulbs. The Northern Railway will replace 2.6 million incandescent bulbs with CFL bulbs.
According to Railway Ministry’s senior official, "The CFL’s of 14 watt to 18 watt will be given to each household free of charge. Each household will be entitled to a maximum of four CFLs. The CFL usage would be monitored through meters.”
The Railway Ministry’s official has reported that the other railway zones will also implement this project in the course of time. There are total 6.5 lakh railways’ residential quarters all over India, and the Indian Railways is expecting to save 130 million units of power per year by implementing its "efficient lightening project".
