Airlines cuts air fares to woo passengersSome Private Airlines have decided to make air travel cheaper, cutting air fare to woo more passengers and to increase demand in the aviation sector, facing the heat of global slowdown under the impact of low demand across the segment.

Domestic carriers including SpiceJet Ltd, Jet Airways (India) Ltd, JetLite (India) Ltd, GoAirlines (India) Pvt Ltd and Air India announced various discount schemes and fare cuts to boost sale across the segment.

Rencently, some private airlines increased the price of tickets by Rs 300.

The low-fare subsidiary of full-service carrier Jet Airways, JetLite is providing tickets at 4,170 rupees on 24 routes within India.

Wadia group operated GoAir announced special schemes to offer air tickets starting at Re 0 and Rs 95, excluding surcharge and taxes.

New Delhi-based low-fare carrier SpiceJet also announced discount of Rs 500, up to October 25, 2009, for every return ticket.

Meanwhile, Air India, run by National Aviation Co of India Ltd, announced Advance Purchase Excursion (APEX) fares, cutting fares by 70 per cent, on 35 select domestic sectors on April 17 for persons booking the tickets 10 to 20 days advance for Rs 2,694 and Rs 2,494 respectively .
