Indonesian court jails four militants over murder, attack plots
Jakarta - An Indonesian court on Tuesday sentenced four Islamic militants to between four and 12 years in jail over the murder of a Christian teacher and a plot to bomb a cafe.
Judges at the South Jakarta District Court sentenced Abdurrahman Taib and Ki Agus Muhammad Toni to 12 years in jail.
A separate bench jailed Anis Sugandi and Sukarso Abdillah for five and four years, respectively, for being accessories to acts of terrorism.
Judges said the men were involved in the murder of a Christian school teacher in South Sumatra province, a failed plot to kill a priest in West Java, and an aborted plan to bomb a cafe in Bukittinggi in West Sumatra.
The convicts were among 10 men arrested in South Sumatra province during a series of raids last year. Police found 20 bombs.
The court was due to pass verdicts on three more defendants, including a Singaporean who confessed to be the group's leader, next Tuesday.
Indonesia was hit by a series of bombings blamed on Islamic militants between 2000 and 2005.
Scores of militants have been arrested and three people convicted of the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed 202 people, were executed in November. (dpa)
