Austrian one-two from Zettel, Goergl - Vonn stretches lead
Ofterschwang, Germany - Kathrin Zettel won a giant slalom from Elisabeth Goergl in an Austrian one-two on Friday while Lindsey Vonn took another big step towards back-to-back World Cup titles.
Zettel got her sixth career success in 2 minutes 36.48 seconds with Goergl clocking 2:36.60 minutes from two runs and Finland's Tanja Poutiainen third on 2:37.00 minutes.
Vonn, meanwhile, placed eighth as the American stretched her lead over German rival Maria Riesch at the top of the World Cup standings.
Vonn has 1,588 points with just five races left in the season, Riesch has 1,174 after coming 22nd. Sweden's Anja Paerson has 990 and Zettel is in podium contention as well on 985. A victory is worth 100 points.
Zettel increased her advantage over Poutiainen in the giant slalom list into the final race next week, by 469 to 428 points. Goergl has 297 while Tina Maze dropped to fourth with 268 points, the Slovenian coming fourth on the day after leading the first run.
A slalom is scheduled for Saturday in Ofterschwang, with the World Cup finals following in Are, Sweden, next week. (dpa)
