Sweden's Paerson won't give up after dismal start at worlds

Anja PaersonVal d'Isere, France/Stockholm - Swedish ski star Anja Paerson Friday said she would continue to race at the ongoing alpine skiing world championships in France despite a second failed event.

Paerson, who appeared to suffer from pain in a knee, declined to offer details about her physical condition when interviewed by Swedish radio.

"I'll keep on racing," she said. "So far it is still possible to ski."

Paerson came to France as a three-time world champion from 2007 but also handicapped by her knee problems. She failed to finish in the super-g on Tuesday and also in Friday's combined event.

Team-mate Frida Hansdotter started off well Friday before also missing out. In addition, Jessica Lindell-Vikarby tore the cruciate ligament in her knee in a downhill training crash on Wednesday and is out for the season.

""It does not seem like we have the breaks on our side," Paerson said in the interview.

Paerson said "it is uphill" but hoped to improve for Sunday's downhill. (dpa)
