State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), on Wednesday, announced the nation-wide launch of Interactive Personalized Television & Video Services (IPTV) for its customers.

Internet Protocol Tele Vision (IPTV) is a new revolution in the television history where service providers can utilize existing copper cable network to deliver high quality videos and sound using Internet Protocol.

With this launch, the company has enabled its customers to watch programmes according to their convenience from more than 140 TV channels.

While launching this service, BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal said, “We have ambitious plans for broadband expansion. For the coming three years, we have plans to add three million broadband connections every year.”

Goyal said that the company would also provide a wide movie library with Hollywood and Bollywood titles at no extra cost to its customers. Apart from this, the customers who avail IPTV services from the company would also get video, music, games and eduction on demand facility. The company believes that this service would change the whole scenario of the home television entertainment.

BSNL will be offering these services in collaboration with Smart Digivision Pvt Ltd. The Smart TV Group, consisting of Smart Digivision Pvt Ltd and Smart Broadband Services Pvt Ltd, has entered into long term contracts with MTNL and BSNL for providing co-branded interactive video services to their customers in 54 large cities across India.
