New Horizons Team releases Psychedelic Image of Pluto

New Horizons spacecraft has been sending valuable data and images of Pluto since last year. During a flyby of the planet this summer, the spacecraft collected data and pictures. Currently, scientists have been processing that data. Now, they have released a beautiful psychedelic image of the planet in the Kuiper belt. The new image is blotted with highly contrasting colors.

Alan Stern, principal investigator of New Horizons from the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI), said it was interesting and surprising to know that dwarf planets can be active billions of years after their creation and that too in massive scale.

New Horizons has already sent many images of Pluto showing complex atmosphere of the dwarf planet. Icy plains, mountains and chemical composition of the planet have been revealed in the images. Scientists on earth have been using these HD quality images and data sent by the probe to know more about Pluto.

On Monday at the Division of Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting in National Harbor, New Horizons team shared what they have known about the dwarf planet found just 10 million years ago. They also revealed information on the planet’s small and hazy appearing atmosphere.

According to scientists, new findings have changed all previous beliefs about Pluto. They have found ice volcanoes on the surface of the dwarf planet. They also discovered that four tiniest moons of the planet are rotating around it in pandemonium.
