Nepal's Constituent Assembly to elect its chairman, vice chairman

Kathmandu, July 22: Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) will elect its chairman and vice chairman on Thursday.

The Constituent Assembly's acting chairman, Kul Bahadur Gurung, in a statement said that the election would begin at 11:00 a. m., adding that the candidates' proposals have to be registered on Wednesday.

In line with their understanding of electing Nepali Congress (NC) candidate as president, a Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) candidate as vice president and a Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) candidate as the CA chairman, the three parties are expected to back a UML candidate for the position.

The UML has decided to field the Speaker of the interim parliament, Subas Nemwang, as its candidate for the post of CA chairman, nepalnews reported. (ANI)
