NDTV Aspires To Launch More TV Channels
New Delhi Television (NDTV) has decided to launch more television channels, both nationally and internationally.
While talking at the launch of ‘MetroNation,’ NDTV’s 5th channel in the country, Prannoy Roy, chairman, stated, “By this year, or financial year end, there will be more channels from NDTV.”
The news and lifestyle channel broadcaster is aimed at the five-million Delhi people that read English language newspapers.
Within the country, NDTV runs five channels including NDTV 24x7, NDTV India, NDTV Profit, NDTV Good Times and NDTV MetroNation. It has introduced its channels in Malaysia, Indonesia and Dubai, through coactions.
Mr. Roy added that the broadcaster was looking to swell its existence in news-cum-entertainment channels across rising market areas such as North Africa, West Asia and south east Asia.
NDTV’s Bahasa Indonesia language channel in Indonesia, which was launched in 2006 in partnership with with Astro All Asia, has broken even and even started making money. With a focus on Dubai and UAE, it launched NDTV Arabia earlier this month. In association with Astro All Asia, it has also launched a Bahasa Malaysia language channel in Malaysia.
Within India, the company launched its lifestyle channel NDTV Good Times, which has a branding affiliation with UB Group’s Kingfisher.
NDTV will launch city channels centred on Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai, under the brand name NDTV MetroNation, close to the channel launched in New Delhi, Chief Executive K V L Narayan Rao said.
Over 100 new TV channels are planned to be launched in India, the world’s third-largest cable TV market, by the next 12 months.
