Navy set to commission indigenous INS Shivalik
The Navy is set to commission India's first indigenously developed stealth frigate INS Shivalik on April 29 to expand its capabilities at sea.
Navy plans to commission seven frigates stealth warships under Project-17A and four guided-missile destroyers under Project-15B by 2020 to augment its blue-water capabilities. The project is expected to cost around 65,000 crore. Even before the commissioning of the warship, the Navy has already planned for even stealthier warships.
The warships will be developed at the Mazagon Docks in Mumbai and GRSE in Kolkata. After from the indigenously developed warships the navy will also receive three more stealth frigates named, Teg, Tarkash and Trikhand from Russia during 2011-2012 onwards under a project costing about Rs 5,514 crore. Navy has already commissioned three such warships named Talwar, Trishul and Tabar in 2003-04.
Navy is concentrating on having more warships which are capable of escaping detection by enemy radars.
