More private education institutions now meet standards in SingaporeAccording to a new report, more private education institutions (PEI) in Singapore now meet baseline standards since its launch in 2009.

The Council for Private Education's (CPE) has released its latest annual report in which it said that the standard of education has increased during the years. The report found that about half of all registered PEIs in the country have now attained four- or six-year registration periods compared to 32 per cent recorded in the previous report.

The report showed that the percentage of PEIs with EduTrust certification increased from 22 to 28 per cent during the period. The EduTrust certification scheme has requirements relating to overseas recruitment intermediaries and agents of Singapore PEI. The institutions that meet the requirements are awarded with the certification by the authorities.

It was also found that about 68 per cent of students going to PEIs in the country in 2011 were enrolled in these EduTrust-certified centers. The report showed that half of the 338 schools now had licenses than earlier reports.

The results are now available at the Ministry of Education's or CPE's websites.
