MMRDA signs MoU with Transport for London
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday with Transport for London (TfL) aimed at exchange of information and technology transfer in the transportation sector.
MMRDA is responsible for transport in India's financial capital while TfL is a British government body that is responsible for transport in the Greater London area. The partnership will help MMRDA in implementing its plans to develop a metro network spanning 150 km in the Mumbai metropolitan region.
The Mou was signed by Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, and David Waboso, Director, Capital Programmes for Transport for London. The signing of the MoU coincided with a visit by the UK Prime Minister David Cameron to the Indian mega city.
Prithviraj Chavan , the Chief Minister of the western state of Maharashtra said in a press release that the participating by the UK business community in the infrastructure project will pave the way for similar initiatives in the future.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of the UK arrived in India's financial capital, Mumbai with the largest trade delegation taken abroad by a British prime minister for a three day visit to the emerging country. He said that he wants British firms to work with the authorities in the UK and in India to participate in projects for the development. He also urged the Indian government to open up the economy to allow foreign direct investment into different sectors.
