Minors want to have say in planet’s future

A number of youngsters want that their opinion should be included in the planet’s future. Therefore, minors across the nation have been filing cases against states and the federal government asking them to take action to curb climate change.

According to minors, they will be at the bearing end. Youngsters said that the government has the responsibility to save natural resources, atmosphere and even the trust of future generations. The Oregon-based nonprofit Our Children’s Trust has been at the forefront in filing cases or administrative petitions in every state and the federal government.

Cases are being worked upon, as some of the youth-led cases have been canceled and many lie pending in states including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Oregon. Michael Gerrard, Director of the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University, said that for now, it does not seem that the US courts have any intention to set any climate policy.

Many teenagers are of the belief that the government is not putting in best efforts to ensure that they have good quality of life. “The government isn’t doing the best to assure that we have the best quality of life. It holds more urgency for us. Our future is at hand”, said Aji Piper, 15.

On the other hand, the EPA said that President Barack Obama and the agency have been taking actions to provide future generation a cleaner and safer future, which is their right and they deserve also.
