Microsoft offers apology for Cashback glitches
On Monday, Microsoft extended its apology to the online shoppers who were looking to clinch Balck Friday deals, but were frustrated to the core due to the glitches on its Live Search Cashback site.
Consumers faced a lot of problems from the site, from sluggishness to seeing the wrong amount of cashback showing up in their accounts in the midst of heavy traffic on Friday.
Shoppers, who were looking to take advantage of a promotion with Hewlett-Packard that offered buyers a 40 percent discount when visiting HP. com through Microsoft's Live Search Cashback, encountered a lot of problems. It was reported by some shoppers that only a 3 percent cash back amount was posted to their account
Through a statement, Microsoft said, "We deeply regret customer inconvenience with respect to the outage. The spike in traffic, in combination with a technical glitch led to the outage. The promotion will restart in the next day or so. Again, we apologize for our customer's inconvenience."
A representative from Microsoft explained that the company is in the process to ensure that the proper cash back amount is credited.
Back in May, Live Search Cashback was launched as a way for Microsoft to try to enhance its share of commerce-related search queries. The advertisers agreed to pay Microsoft in the form of a certain percentage of any resulting sale instead of pay-per-click model. As of now though, Microsoft is giving that entire amount back to the consumers as "cash back."
Microsoft also said on Monday, "Some users will be able to get cash back instantly on eBay purchases, as opposed to having to wait the 60 days that is standard on Live Cashback."
