Meal Substitutes No Help for Obese Teens

Meal-Substitutes-Obese-TeensMeal replacement diets are no good in case of weight reduction, states a new study.

According to a recently released study, obese teens who opt for substitutes meals as a quick-fix cure for the obesity end up doing no good in losing weight.

However, it is claimed that the meal replacements prove no good than regular standard low calorie diets.

Meal substitute products involve bars, shakes and other pre-prepared food rations proffered in a meaner to aid in regulation of calorie intake without the need of people which might not require counting them since they come with pre- determined amounts of calories and nutrition.

However, unlike adults, teens seemingly more difficulty in digesting the portioned diet, when tabulated with their regimen and seemingly find themselves consuming more than regular or end up having foods more in fat and calories. In such a case, meal replacements might prove no good at all.

Lead author of the study, Dr. Robert L. Berkowitz of Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital concluded, "The potential benefit of (meal replacement) in maintaining weight loss was not supported.”

The study has been released in the journal 'Obesity.'
