Maruti targets exports of 15%
In a situation where the country’s largest auto major Maruti Suzuki is facing its domestic demand surpassing its production level, the company has decided to limit its exports to a 15% level of the total sales made by the company in an year’s time.
In fact, it may be noted here that in a message to shareholders in the annual report for 2009-10, the company’s chairman RC Bhargava said that the company should concentrate on domestic market. Perhaps deliberately not attempt to export large parts of its production, but keep exports about 15 % of output.
It is to be mentioned here that during the period of this fiscal, the company exported 50,558 passenger cars, which amounts to around 15% of its total output.
Maruti Suzuki managing director Shinzo Nakanishi said that the company had hopes of the domestic market to grow by close to 12-15% in the first few months of this fiscal.
However, the market has grown by over 30% and hence most of the models that the company produce in the company today are on a waiting period.
