Maruti Strike Enters 5th Day Resulting in Production Loss of 4,200 VehiclesStrike at car maker Maruti Suzuki's north Indian plant is yet not over, resulting which the company has faced a production loss of 4,200 vehicles till date.

Maruti sells every second new car in India and is presently having a single workers union that is recognized by the management. The company was continuing talks with the workers at the Manesar plant that produces about 1,200 vehicles a day, including the hatchbacks Swift, A-Star models, DZiRE and SX4 sedans, but since past five days, 800 workers of Maruti are on strike and are demanding the company to recognize a new union i. e. Maruti Suzuki Employees Union.

Following which, a company spokesman confirmed the loss that occurred because of the ongoing strike. He further revealed the estimated loss figures to be approx 1.6 billion rupees ($35.79 million) till Wednesday, with loss of 600 to 650 units each shift affected.

Maruti is in high demands in the South Asian Country as the vehicles sales in the region have set a new record of 30% in 2010, post which the 54.2 percent-owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, Maruti is planning to majorly advance its capacity expansion plans enabling it to efficiently meet the growing demands but the strike is definitely hindering the company’s growth plans.

“The Maruti Suzuki management is not at all considering accepting strikers' demand for formation of a new Union and with any riders,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
