Majority of people agree on need to curb greenhouse gas emissions
On Thursday, a poll results with regard to climate change were released by the Pew Research Center. In the survey, residents of 40 countries took part. Majority of the people agreed on the need to curb greenhouse gas emissions. But the nations that emit the most carbon dioxide per person were least concerned about the dangerous phenomena taking place.
Officials said that except Pakistan, majority of people have backed the suggestion of levying a cap on the emissions of gases that are warming our planet. According to the survey results – in America, 69% did; in China, 71% did, in Nigeria- 77% do and in Brazil, 88% did.
Michael E. Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University, said that such a massive support shows that people are realizing what the impacts of climate change are then whether it is droughts in California or wildfires.
The researchers also noticed that degree of the intensity of the concern about rising temperatures differs like the nations including the United States, Australia and Russia, which are among the top carbon polluters per capita, were less bothered about climate change than people in India, Kenya and Mexico.
But the positive change was percentage of people in America and France who think that climate change is a grave problem has increased over the past five years. On the other hand, a decline has come in the proportion of those thinking the problem to be very serious in China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Indonesia, Turkey and Argentina. Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa are the places where fear of climate change was the most.
