Maharashtra Home Minister orders probe into IPS officer’s assetsMaharashtra Home Minister orders probe into IPS officer’s assetsMaharashtra Home Minister R. R. Patil on Wednesday ordered an investigation against additional commissioner of police Krishna Prakash, who has been facing allegation of amassing properties in various parts of the state by misusing his position.

Leaders from the Opposition parties alleged that Prakash, additional commissioner of police for Mumbai south region, misled the government about the value of real estate properties that he purchased in Aurangabad, Shirdi, Ratangiri and other areas of the state.

Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said Prakash claimed that he purchased land in Shirdi at a price of Rs 1 lakh per acre, but the real worth of the land is around Rs 30 lakh per acre.

Fadnavis demanded a probe, saying it needed to be found how the police officer managed to buy the land at such throwaway prices.

Patil announced a probe, saying the government would verify whether the officer really provided misleading information about his properties.

Announcing the probe, Patil said, "We will verify whether the IPS officer undervalued his assets. The probe will be completed within three months and the report tabled in the state legislative assembly."

The probe against the IPS officer will be conducted by an executive of the rank of inspector general (IG) of police

However, sources said the probe against Prakash could be the fallout of his 2011's action, in which officers under him had arrested an MLA's family members in a criminal case.
