LiveWire S2 Del Mar recalled over rear axle fastener issue

In a proactive move towards ensuring rider safety, American electric motorcycle manufacturer LiveWire EV LLC has issued a recall for the 2024 S2 Del Mar to address a critical issue concerning the rear axle and lower rear shock mounting nuts. Confirming the recently-issued recall for the 2024 S2 Del Mar electric motorcycle, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that this recall addresses a critical issue concerning the electric two-wheeler’s rear axle as well as lower rear shock mounting nuts, unlike a previous recall related to engine software.

In other words, this recall centers around incorrect tightening torques applied to certain rear axle and lower rear shock mounting nuts during the process of manufacturing. The potential risk identified by the manufacturer is that it could lead to a loss of control of the motorcycle, pointedly elevating the risk of an accident. The affected range of motorcycles has been estimated at approx. 165 bikes, spanning those manufactured between July 31, 2023, and November 30, 2023.

A probe initiated by LiveWire's Service Team in the month of January this year unearthed the issue, ultimately attributed to an inappropriate third-party inspection process during manufacturing. Following rigorous examination and evaluation, LiveWire took decisive action in March this year to issue a safety recall, showing its commitment to rider safety.

The two-wheeler manufacturer is diligently notifying both its dealer network as well as registered owners of affected bikes, urging swift action to remedy any probable hazards. Owners are recommended to contact their local authorized dealerships promptly to arrange for a recall service, which will include a comprehensive inspection and, if necessary, the detailed tightening of nuts to the suitable torque specification.

In case of damage to affected components, the company’s technicians stand ready to replace damaged parts at no additional cost to the customer. It is imperative to note that this recall solely pertains to a specific production range of the 2024 S2 Del Mar, guaranteeing unaffected models remain unaffected.

The e-bike brand remains committed in its commitment to rider safety and satisfaction. Owners can rest assured that LiveWire Customer Service stands ready to address any concerns or inquiries related to this recall. Furthermore, owners can reach out to the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline or visit the agency’s official website for additional guidance.

As LiveWire continues to uphold its unwavering commitment to excellence, the recall of the S2 Del Mar underscores the brand's commitment to proactive safety measures and unwavering support for its valued customers.
