Laundry pods pose Significant Risk to Small Children

Consumer Reports, a nonprofit organization that looks after different consumer products and rates them on safety and reliability, has removed laundry pods from ‘recommended’ list because they pose risk to small children.

Children can get attracted to bright colors and bite-size packaging of the laundry pods that may look like candy. They can try and chew them making it very risky for children. Being handy for children, chemicals present inside the packet can get into their mouth and eyes.

Experts have said that it can lead to vomiting and heavy coughing. But in severe cases, it can range from comas, seizures to breathing problems. In 2012, the pods were released and were considered to be the easiest way to wash clothes.

But considering the risk involved, they can prove quite dangerous to young children. Main aim is to raise awareness about the risk associated with laundry pods. As per Consumer Report, laundry pods need special attention.

In the first half of the year, poison control centers across the nation have received over 6,000 reports of children inhaling the pods, consuming the chemical and putting chemicals in eyes. The numbers are considerably high.

They are just on the pace of 11,714 kids who came in contact with the product in 2014. This issue is not old and has popped up over the past few years. But it is something that may need more attention. So far, it is not known as to why they are so toxic.
