Karachi, Oct. 6 : Disappointed at not being able to reach the final of the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan captain Younis Khan has said his team ran out of luck in the semi-final encounter against New Zealand.

Talking to media persons at the Jinnah International Airport shortly after arriving from South Africa, Khan blamed batsmen for the defeat.

“Lady-luck did not favour us. Some poor batting and fielding and some crucial umpiring decisions went against us. Had Pakistan scored 25 to 30 more runs against New Zealand it would have been a different story,” The Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.

He regretted dropping New Zealand batsman Grant Elliot’s catch saying he would never forget that fumble which cost Pakistan the match.

“It is an incident of my cricket career that I cannot forget and will never be able to forget because frankly speaking if I had taken that catch things could have been different,” Khan said.

Elliot was dropped by Khan when he was on 42, but went on to make a superb 75 to help New Zealand seal its berth in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Khan said he desperately wanted to win the coveted trophy to make his countrymen happy just like he did earlier in the year by winning the T20 World Cup.

“It was a case of so near yet so far. We had one bad day in the tournament and it had to happen in the semi-finals,” he added. (ANI)
