Labour unrest at Hyundai…again?

Hyundai-MotorThere have been many instances where the Korean auto major has been caught barefoot in the domestic circuit by its union as the company has faced labour unrest a several times.  

As the company is all set to celebrate its three million units production milestone, the labour trouble is rearing its head afresh at the plant at Irrungattukottai.

Y.S. Chinnaraja, general secretary, Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU) said that the company is now applying delaying tactics in its strategy.

The general secretary also pointed out the fact that the Korean auto major has not submitted its arguments to the six-member review committee as to why the 35 workers who were dismissed earlier need not be reinstated.

While the union is demanding reinstatement of 67 dismissed employees, it is to be mentioned here that the management and HMIEU had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June in the presence of State Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan. It may be noted here that the company has close to has around 1,650 permanent workers, 2,000 causal labourers, 1,500 apprentices, 1,000 trade apprentices and 1,200 technical trainees.
