Khadi for the new breed

A new outlet promoting Khadi, aims to make the fabric more popular, especially among the youth

Khadi Gramodyog Sahkari Bhandar Ltd, one of the pioneers of Khadi movement in Gujarat, has been promoting the fabric for the last 54 years. The organisation has now come up with its new outlet and aims to make khadi and gramodyog products more popular especially, among the youth in the state.

Charulbhai Vakta, general secretary of the Khadi Gramodyog, said, “We have refurbished our new Ashram Road outlet to make it more attractive to the youngsters. We hope they like our exclusive line of khadi garments and regard it as cool apparels. Since the youth form a major chunk of our target customers, we have plans of including materials and clothes matching their preferences. In a way, this is a movement for luring the country’s youth towards khadi.”

The khadi house has trendy kurtas for both men and women, while it offers a splendid range of dress materials for the ladies.  Household accessories like carpets, printed bedsheets and interior décor (all made of either khadi or wood), are also available at the outlet. This apart, the outlet also expects to attract ladies with their ayurvedic beauty product line.

The new outlet was inaugurated by Governor Naval Kishore Sharma, who said, “Khadi is not just a tradition passed down the generations, it is a very comfortable clothing apparel. By taking to khadi, youngsters will indirectly contribute to the development of their neighbouring villagers, who will benefit from the revenue generated from its sale.”
