Key Information about Alzheimer’s disease

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth biggest reason of death in America. In order to make things better, a number of steps have been taken.

People suffering from Alzheimer’s face damage to their brain’s neurons. It impairs a person’s ability to perform bodily functions like swallowing and walking. When the disease is at its peak then patient is unable to get up from bed and needs 24-hour care and the end result is death.

Experts suggested that tips that can keep Alzheimer’s at bay include taking proper sleep, having healthy food, exercising regularly and no smoking. Other activities include staying socially connected, learning new things, taking care of mental health and reducing the risk of diabetes.

Neurologist Dr. David Geldmacher suggested that people should take care of themselves when they get 50 years old. If one adopts this recommendation then they can make a big and positive difference in their lives when they turn 70 years old.

For now, there is no test that can conclusively determine whether a person will suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Heather Snyder, director of medical and scientific operations at the Alzheimer’s Association, said, “We don’t know the exact cause of Alzheimer’s . . . (Alzheimer’s) the only one in the top 10 that we don’t have a way to stop or slow or prevent”.

But things may change as doctors at three US medical centers are gathering enough information as much as they can about patients. They will use this information to have an early intervention plan to slow or prevent the disease.
