Kerala Travel Mart 2012 records high participation despite economic slumpKerala Travel Mart 2012, which concluded on Sunday, recorded higher participation than the earlier version of the event with participants reaching more than expected 1,400.

The organizers of the event pointed out that the event was a success despite a global economic slump in Europe and western economies. General convener and president of the Travel Mart, Riaz Ahmed noted that the participation rose from 1,200 buyers to 1,400 during this edition of the biennial fair.

Kerala Tourism Secretary Suman Billa said that the event has received positive response from the industry players and the state has emerged as a buyer's market. It was agreed during the event that waste management is the prime issue that requires attention. A resolution has been passed to make Kerala a clean destination.

A statement issued at the event said that Kerala tourism will work together with the tourism industry in the state to make Kerala a clean tourist destination. State Tourism Department will suppoer efforts of private palyers in creating a clean image of the state.

Kovalam, Fort Kochi, Marine Drive in Ernakulam, Munnar, Thekkady, Kumarakom, Alappuzha and Wayanad are the nine areas identified for the newly launched efforts for cleanliness in the state.
