Kalmadi and nine others charged in CWG scam   A Delhi court has framed charges against former Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi and nine other officials for forgery, cheating and conspiracy in the scam involving the mega sporting event.

The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court framed the charges against the accused. Judge Ravinder Kaur framed the charges against the officials for the wrongdoings that caused a loss of hundreds of crores of rupees to the government.

The court framed charges against Kalmadi and former Organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot for financial irregularities in awarding a contract worth Rs. 141 crore relating to the Commonwealth Games 2010 (CWG) in Delhi.

The Court had recently ordered that charges of forgery, cheating and conspiracy must be framed against Suresh Kalmadi and some other officials. Special CBI judge Talwant Singh has ordered framing of charges against Kalmadi, former OC secretary general Lalit Bhanot and nine other officials for awarding a Games related contract to Swiss firm, Swiss Timing Omega. The contract caused huge losses to the government.

The court said in the ruling that charges of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and for offences under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act should be made against eight persons as well as three companies involved in the graft case.
