Job advertisements falls 1.7% in May

Job advertisements falls 1.7% in MayAccording to the latest figures released, the total number of Job advertisements fell 1.7 per cent during the month of May in New Zealand indicating that the jobs market is still in a volatile position.

The ANZ New Zealand Job Advertisements report showed that the total number of newspaper job ads fell 7.2 per cent in May and the internal job ads fell 0.7 per cent. The fall reversed the increase in February and March in the country. The report said that the job ads lead the unemployment data by six months and the fall indicates that the unemployment may rise in the coming months.

"Job advertising remains the conspicuously absent guest at the New Zealand economic party of 2013," the report said.

The report said that the central bank was expecting a growth in the jobs market but the fall indicates that the jobs markets had not made a strong recovery. The report also noted that the labour market outcomes are different across regions in the country. The newspaper and internet advertising varied differently across different regions in the country.
